2 TOP-CLASS woods
The wood of your gate should be resistant to wind, rain and erosion. Looking at commonly used wood species such as oak, hardwood Iroko, padauk or Accoya®... there are 2 top qualities that meet the quality requirements of wooden gates. This is also the reason why, at De Sutter Naturally, we are fully committed to these 2 types of wood.
Padauk
|
We make 95% of our gates in padauk:
- Durability class 1 tropical hardwood
- Greys beautifully
- Maintenance free
- Lifespan 20 years
- It lives much less than, say, oak or Iroko, both of which are susceptible to warping
|
Accoya®
|
5% of our gates are made of Accoya®
- Particularly interesting for painted gates
- Lifespan 50 years
|
All wooden gates by De Sutter Naturally in padauk or Accoya® carry the FSC® certificate, the hallmark for responsible forest management. And in terms of looks, you can really go either way with these sustainable and ethically sourced woods.
Wood types & maintenance
Another side-step to the maintenance factor. Tropical hardwoods such as padauk are maintenance-free. Without treatment, padauk discolours from orange-red to the intended (silver) grey. Other woods require protection to preserve their appearance and colour. Timely repetition of treatment is important. Lacquered wooden gates require less maintenance, although it is best to do an occasional check to make sure the paintwork is not damaged.
Quality, beauty & durability in wood
When quality, beauty and durability are balanced, you have the perfect wooden gate. In that case you can rest assured. De Sutter Naturally's woods and gates score across the board. Promise.
