Gates
You value your privacy and would therefore like to provide your garden with a fence, including residential gate. But where exactly are you going to place the gate? A highly relevant question, as the position of the gate helps determine which type is most suitable.

Right place, right gate

With a fully landscaped garden, the choice is often limited. It may no longer be possible to position the gate just anywhere. If your garden still needs a freshening up, there are a lot more options. Some questions you can ask yourself in that case:

  • Do you want a gate in your front or side garden?

If your property should not be accessible to just anyone, a gate in the front garden is the way to go. In that case, visitors ring the bell at the gate and cannot get to your front door without your permission. If you want to leave the way to your front door open, go for a gate in the side garden.

  • Do you choose a garden door or a garden gate?

A gate in the front garden should be wide enough to go through by car anyway. Otherwise, you can't drive up the driveway. In the side garden, you could possibly opt for a garden door only. The disadvantage is that you cannot drive your car into your garden if you would want to at a later time. If you want to keep the option open, a garden door accompanied by an opening panel may offer added value. This solution is often chosen, especially for semi-open buildings.

  • Are you choosing a swing or sliding gate?

The space at hand is the guiding principle here. A sliding gate requires sufficient space for the gate to slide sideways. Of course, the advantage is that you can park a car right behind the gate. With a swing gate, on the other hand, you need enough space for the wings of the gate, which makes it impossible for cars or other things to be placed right behind the gate.

  • In which direction does the gate open?

For a sliding gate the decision to be made is about sliding to the left or right. The choice depends on how much space there is on each side. In case of a swing gate, most people choose inward swinging wings, unless the driveway is large enough. In that case, the open swing gate does not disturb through traffic.
