A path between cleaved chestnut fencing with 2 rails, square posts and a mesh fence on top
About wood
Both pressure-treated pine posts and Robinia posts can be used for putting up a wire mesh fence around a field. It is however important to make a considered decision between the two kinds of timber. Here's a list of the benefits and drawbacks of each kind of timber.

Robinia posts
Robinia is the hardest kind of European timber. That means that the untreated timber guarantees a very long service life. For agricultural fencing you can reckon on a problem-free service life of twenty years.

Robinia is distinguishable by its natural appearance and irregular shape. The timber contains cracks and knots. The extra authenticity gives your field an exclusive look. Some people find this attractive, others prefer a straighter look.

Pressure-treated pine posts
Pressure-treated pine posts are another option. These timber posts are neatly planed and deeply pressure-treated to resist decay, which is necessary for achieving the intended life.

The posts get a clean, green, pressure-treated look through planing. The expected service life is around 15 years or longer.

Importance of professional installation
We recommend professional installation for both Robinia poles and pressure-treated pine poles for wire mesh fencing. It is however important to vibrate the posts into the ground using special equipment, so that no soil is removed and the posts do not need to be set firmly in stabilised sand mix.

Posts experience large tensile forces with correctly tightened wire mesh fence. Even the tightening itself requires a lot of expertise and experience. The correct approach prevents buckling and becoming slack.
