Wooden gate with aboveground motor
This is a wooden gate with surface-mounted motor, as we call it. On a closed-gate model, that surface-mounted engine is not visible from the street side, but it is - of course - on the inside.
Advantages
- Aboveground motor is more robust
- Provides more stability
- More suitable for larger gates
Disadvantages
- Aesthetically less pleasing
- Takes up extra space
Wooden gate with underground motor
Many times, customers experience underground motors as 'nicer' because everything is neatly hidden in the ground. That is a fact. Supposing additional maintenance is ever needed, it is just as easy as for an aboveground motor, because only the cover plate needs to be removed.
Advantages
- As functional and strong as aboveground motors
- Motor is invisible, only the cover plate in view
Disadvantages
- More sensitive to weather conditions, leaves, dirt, water and frost
- Generally more expensive than aboveground motor
- Installation in the ground
