A see-through gate or not?
There are several reasons why customers choose an open gate or see-through gate. Sometimes they fall for the design, where the padauk slats are slightly apart. This makes for a modern and playful look. A wooden gate with see-through is also useful when you don't want to have a videophone installed. It allows you to see who is at the door at any time, even when you are working in the garden, for example.
A gate stronger than the wind
However, the wind is one of the decisive factors. You have to consider this when you want to order a gate and install it. Where will the gate be located? Will it catch much wind? Quite an important aspect to consider. The fact is that large, closed surfaces catch a lot of wind. Hence these tips for a gate ‘stronger than the wind’:
- Large closed gates: best to leave a minimum clearance of 12 mm between the boards
- A sliding gate in one piece: provide a maximum width of 6 m
- A swing gate: provide a maximum width of 2 m per section
Inspiration for open & closed gates
Another good thing to know: when the gate is closed and there is a lot of wind, an additional electrical drop bolt should be installed for stability.
