Horses prefer to graze in their own field. If the field is big enough, they can take care of most of their feed requirement themselves. Feeding is nevertheless necessary in some cases. You must also provide several dozen litres of drinking water per horse per day. It’s best to put the shelter, feed and drink troughs in different places. This means you encourage the horses to move around.
Horses can happily withstand outdoor temperatures. You need to provide a shelter in the field nevertheless. - Protection against insects
Horses can also be greatly irritated by insects. However, it is possible to provide animals with an insect repellent in the form of citronella. Other solutions are horse blankets or sticky traps, consisting of a large sticky ball with a fly net hanging over it.
And last, but certainly not least. A horse is a herd animal and needs social interaction. So it is appropraite to keep two or more horses in a field. If you opt for just one horse, you can perfectly well put it together with a goat or a sheep. These animals make the best companions for your horse. It is best, however, to install a wire mesh fence, so that these smaller animals cannot escape.
