- Horses will not graze anywhere they do their business.
Horses have a habit of not eating grass where they do their business. This means you will eventually have a paddock where the grass has mostly been eaten neatly and tidily all over, with the exception of a few smaller spaces. The grass and weeds grow vigorously in these places, partly thanks to the extra fertiliser.
- The ideal companion for your horses
Of course, you can check your paddock every day and shovel everything up neatly, so the horses can also graze in those places. Alternatively, buy a sheep or goat. These animals make ideal companions for your horses.
Furthermore, sheep and goats are less choosy when it comes to grazing. They also keep it completely short in those places where the horses won't eat. A sheep or goat is furthermore ideal company for a lone horse in a paddock. Your horse will feel less socially isolated.
If you keep a sheep or goat in a paddock, it is, however, important to choose the wire mesh option. This way, you still have the physical barrier for your horse and you keep the small livestock in the paddock using a fine wire mesh up to the bottom or middle rail.
